BMW 2 Series Gran TourerWritten by Jennifer Young (FB Easter Weekend Competition Winner)“I was the winner of a competition held by Douglas Park BMW Garage in Stirling and it was my privilege to be the proud owner of a BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, albeit for 5 days L In return, I was asked to write a review of my driving experience. My first thoughts on looking at the car was that it didn’t look like a particularly large car however, on looking inside it is a different story. The car has 7 seats for those larger families however, a family of 2 or 3 children will have more than enough room in this car. With the back 2 seats folded down the boot becomes huge. More than enough room to accommodate suitcases/luggage for all the family. There are fold down tables with juice holders for the kids and magazine holders under the back seats to keep all the toys and books that are required to be taken on longer journeys safely stowed away until needed. The model I drove was an automatic and having never driven an automatic car before I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to adjust and also how much I enjoyed driving an automatic. I was of the mind-set that automatic cars were for the ‘older generation’. Either I am falling into the ‘older generation’ category quicker than I thought or my initial perception of automatic cars is completely wrong. In this case, the latter applies and would seriously consider an automatic for a future car. There was more than enough power in the model I drove and the car was extremely responsive. I thought the interior of the car was particularly stylish with the quality leather seats and sporty steering wheel. The sports theme continues with the heated front seats and adjustable back width so that the seat wraps around your sides. There are thin strip lights on the dash and inside doors that glowed orange when the headlights were on. There are also little lights on the outside door handles which I thought was a nice little touch when getting into the car at night. The car has in built sat nav which is easy to navigate through using the menu dial. The radio and telephone can also be controlled via this one dial. Another plus for me was the automatic boot door. As a mother of 2 kids, any trip out in the car always seems like we take enough bags for a small army so not having to shut a boot door in addition to carrying all the bags was very welcome extra.Overall, I felt the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer was an excellent family car that combined the predictable quality that BMW always provides along with the space required for larger families. All in all, an effortless driving experience which I thoroughly enjoyed.”
